Vacdrain’s vacuum food waste collection system conveys food waste reliably and efficiently, even when it contains large amounts of bulky or starchy substances such as pasta, rice, bread, or potatoes. The system can easily be scaled for ships of all sizes.
Energy-efficient vacuum operation
Small piping size, less material needed
Fulfils Marpol regulations regarding food waste on ships
The system is vacuum operated and consists of three main units: macerator or shredder macerator feeding stations, a vacuum unit, and a food waste tank. Food waste is macerated in the galley area. A small amount of water is added to create a slurry, which is then vacuum-collected into the food waste tank for storage to wait for further processing.
The vacuum system is fully automatic and can be controlled from the engine control room. A vacuum system combined with macerating feeding stations means that it is possible to use piping with a small diameter, making for a more cost-efficient and flexible design.
